Dale Goodman Roach

January 11, 1927 ~ July 20, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Dale Goodman Roach, 90, passed away peacefully early morning, July 20, 2017, at home with his loving wife, Laura by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 24, 2017 at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, OH with Rev. Ed Stivers officiating. Burial will be in Killbuck Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Killbuck VFW Post 7079 and Millersburg American Legion Post 192.

Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made for the Killbuck VFW Lake Park. These can be mailed to Killbuck VFW Post 7079, Attn: Stan Coakley, PO Box 403, Killbuck, OH 44637.

He was born at home on January 11, 1927, in Cuyahoga Falls to Frank Benjamin and Mildred May (Pyers) Roach, and had been a resident of Killbuck since 1942. He graduated from Killbuck High School in 1944.

He enlisted in the US Navy in November, 1944 and served during the end of World War II until June 27, 1949, on the USS Chikaskia.

Dale loved driving truck and did so professionally until 88 years of age. He worked for many companies including Wenham, Haliburton, Holmes Cartage, Briar Hill Stone, AgriSludge, L&W Egg Products, and from 1991-2015, T&L Transport. After retiring at age 88, he drove his Amish friends, Marvin and Edna Yoder of Yoder Tree Services.

He was baptized in 1939 at Manchester Church of Christ, and was a member of Killbuck First Church of Christ.

He was a lifetime member and held various offices, including commander and quartermaster, at Killbuck VFW Post 7079. He was also a lifetime member of Holmesville American Legion Post 551.

He married Laura Jean (Garver) Roach on November 7,1949, in Greenup, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and their husbands, 10 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Daughters and their families are Linda and Rodger Wilcox of Killbuck, and their son and wife, Rance and Jenny Wilcox (Raven, Riley, Regan, Rorie) all of Killbuck. Terri and Larry Loder of Millersburg and children and spouses: Cara Kaufman (Thane, Tucker, Tori) of Millersburg; Bree and Mike McBrayer (Nathan, Zachary) of Dublin; Briana and Chris Rickly (Maverick, Marley) of Millersburg; Mara and Brian Padden (Hailey, Claire) of Wooster; and William and Stephanie Baker of Columbus. Sheila and Jeff Martin of Glenmont and children and spouses: Tobie and Don Snow (Wyatt, Jarrett, Miley) of Killbuck; Amanda and Jeremy Moore (Isabella) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Todd Kirkpatrick of Monte Rio, California; and Jeff and Laryssa Martin of Glenmont.

He is also survived by sisters Glenda and Al Arnold of Killbuck, Ruth Ann and Dick Uhl of Millersburg; sisters-in-law Jeanetta Roach of Canal Fulton and Jane Voltz of Killbuck; brother-in-law Gary and Betty Garver of Callahan, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Harold and wife, Dorothy; Thomas; Herbert and wife, Edna; Jack; Don and wife, Florence; and a sister Frances Roach.

Dale was very involved in his community. He coordinated the Killbuck and Glenmont Memorial Day Services for many years. He dutifully participated in many military funerals. He also helped with the Killbuck Early American Days in many ways.

Dale was known to most of Killbuck as “Grandpa Roach” and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
