Todd Alden Day, 67, of Millersburg, died Monday, January 22, 2024, surrounded
by his family, at Aultman Hospital after a 6-month battle with Acute Erythroid Leukemia.
Todd was born January 24, 1956 to Kenneth and Virginia (Jackson) Day. On
June 14, 1986 he married his best friend and love of his life, Rachel Hanna, and she
survives.
He was a 1974 graduate of Miami East High School and a 1978 graduate of
Wittenberg University with a degree in History Education. He received his first teaching
position at West Holmes Middle School in 1978 and proceeded to teach and coach
multiple sports at West Holmes for 34 years—teaching for 31 and serving as Athletic
Director his last 3 years. Todd was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Spartan
Lodge #126, was a coach and volunteer with the Holmes Co. Special Olympics, and
served as Vice President and board member of the Holmes Co. Antique Festival. He also
served as a past President and board member of the Ohio Festival and Events
Association. He enjoyed hunting, shooting trap and sporting clays, camping with his
family, Ohio State football, and working part time at Village Motors, Inc. and, most
recently, Airport Ridge Sporting Clays, and Rodhe’s IGA-Posey Pad.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 37 years are children Emily (Tony) La Torre
and Blake Day. Also surviving are sisters Leslie Day and Julie (Loren) Raymond, Mother-
in-Law Margarette Hanna, his wife’s siblings Mike, Tim, Chris (Kathy) and Bill (Heidi)
Hanna and Melissa (Jim) Borton, several nieces and nephews and his boxer, Rocky. He
was preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother, and Father-in-Law Harold
Hanna Jr.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Airport Ridge Sporting Clays, Millersburg, Ohio, with Reverend Jim Borton officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday at Airport Ridge with Masonic services beginning at 1:45 p.m. His wishes were to be cremated and the spreading of his ashes will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Holmes County Special Olympics c/o Cindy Boals or the Holmes County Antique Festival.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Aultman Hospital, The James
Cancer Center, and Dr. Scott Brown for their loving and compassionate care for Todd
and our family. Also, thank you to all our family and friends for their loving support.
Todd will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
