Steven “Steve” L. Brown, age 69, of Millersburg, Ohio and formerly of Mexia, Texas, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Akron Summa Hospital.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at a later date.

Steve was born on September 13, 1956, in Mexia, Texas, the son of Dale and Fayrene (Thompson) Brown. He graduated with honors from Mexia High School in 1975 and later earned an associate’s degree in engineering technology.

Steve’s career in seismic exploration took him to more than eighteen states. He worked for Appalachian Geophysical, served as a surveyor for the Holmes Soil and Conservation District, and was an independent contractor for various projects in Holmes County and surrounding areas.

On June 7, 1998, Steve married Jaqueline Mohler, who survives him. He was a proud Texan and a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. Steve enjoyed reading and fishing and was a loyal and devoted husband to his wife Jackie. One of his most prized possessions was his Ford Mustang Mach 1, and even after parting with it, he still loved talking about it. He took pride in maintaining his home and always ensured that everything was “square with the world.” Steve was a Christian who openly accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, deepening his faith through his passion for reading.

In addition to his wife Jackie, Steve is survived by his stepchildren Mindy (Jay) Barnhart and Corey Bailey; step-grandchildren Jack Scherer, Alexis Duffey, Cyla Bailey, Brylie Rickly, Grayson, and Brett Barnhart; great grandson Linkin Shaum; his brother Barry Brown of Mexia, Texas; nephews Joshua Brown of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Samuel Brown of Austin, Texas; and niece Emily Brown of Mexia, Texas.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Fayrene Brown.
