Sherman Yoder Obituary

Sherman Yoder, age 92, of Millersburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on July 1, 2022, at Wooster Community Hospital.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, July 6, at Gateway Fellowship, 1287 Massillon Rd, Millersburg, Ohio 44654 with Pastor Larry Hasemeyer officiating. Burial will take place at Fryburg Cemetery.  Friends and family may call from 5-8 pm Tuesday, July 5, at Gateway.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Love Center Food Pantry P.O. Box 31 Millersburg, Ohio 44654 or Pregnancy Care Center of Wayne County, 331 W Liberty St. Wooster, Ohio 44691.

Sherman was born June 15, 1930, in Holmes County and was the son of Christ and Amanda (Gingerich) Yoder.  On December 25, 1949, he married Joy Lee Rottman, and she survives.

Sherman, like his father, worked in the lumber business. He owned and operated Sherman Lumber Company in Holmesville from 1959-1991.  He was a popular driver at the Holmes Hilltop Speedway, as well as many other surrounding race tracks, thrilling his fans with his many wins.  He also enjoyed piloting his own Piper Cherokee plane, riding his motorcycle, and golfing with his buddies.  Sherman had many friends and family in the Amish Community and enjoyed doing business and working with them.  One of Sherm's greatest joys in life was riding around on the Gator with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren who adored their Papa.

Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 71 years, Joy Lee Yoder, are four children, Toni Schmitt of Wooster, Teri (Doug) Mohr of Millersburg, Becky (Dave) Wigham of Wooster, Bud (Beth) Yoder of Millersburg; 13 grandchildren: Corey Sheely, Clay Schmitt, Melissa Brown, Kelley Baker, Drew Wigham, Allison Wigham, Autumn Beauchamp, Caleb Brown, Jacob Brown, Jamie Yoder, Kane Minnich, Destiney Yoder, Noelle Ebling; 18 great grandchildren; and siblings Mary Gray and Larry Yoder.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Yoder and a sister, Orpha Yoder White.

Papa will be greatly missed by his family.
