Ruby Ellen Martin 1928-2019
Ruby passed away quietly at home in downtown Welcome on Thursday August 22, 2019. She was the daughter of Dannie and Ethel (Parsons) Cline, born in Millersburg Village on January 10, 1928. She married Robert Marion Martin of Holmes County on October 18, 1946 in Mount Vernon.
During Robert’s US Air Force career she worked occasionally and raised her children on bases in Texas, California, Ohio, Okinawa, Florida, North Carolina and Hawaii. After Robert retired and the family returned to Holmes County, Ruby returned to the workforce. Beginning as an aide in the nursery at Pomerene Hospital, she moved into the Medical Records unit and ultimately trained for certification and served as the Head of the department for several years, retiring in the early 90s.
Ruby was predeceased by her husband Robert, two daughters (Roberta and Kathleen), and her sisters Gladys Miller and Nellie Martin. She is survived by her son Patrick Martin (Susan), daughter Lisa Lawhead, sister Karen Griffith, grandchildren Daniel Martin (Rachel), Holly Henry (Brian), and Jessamyn Rucki (Jason), and great grandchildren Christopher, Anna, and Kathleen Henry, and Jake Rucki.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider gifts to Ruby’s favorite local institutions; her church (the Welcome Church of Christ, 4895 Township Road 257, Millersburg), the library (Homes County Public Library, 3102 Glen Drive, Millersburg), or the Killbuck Valley Museum (PO Box 142, Killbuck).
Funeral services will be 12 noon, Saturday August 31st at Welcome Church of Christ with Pastor Dale Duncan officiating. Burial will take place in Nashville Cemetery, Nashville, Ohio. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Saturday at the church.
