Robert "Bob" Akins

"Together Again"

Robert "Bob" Akins, age 94 (two weeks shy of 95), of Killbuck, Ohio passed away Monday, April 17, 2023 at Walnut Hills, Walnut Creek, Ohio following a period of declining health. 

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 24th at Blissfield Cemetery with Kenneth Smailes officiating. A viewing will take place at the cemetery. On-line condolences can be made by visiting www.alexanderfhinc.com.

Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Killbuck United Methodist Church.

Bob was born May 2, 1928 in Blissfield, Ohio and was the son of Otto B. and Florence P. (Van Kannel) Akins. On June 21, 1952 he married Janet R. Schmidt and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2017. 

Bob was one of the oldest graduates of Warsaw High School. He worked 75 plus years for Briar Hill Stone Company. In addition to his work, Akins put his experience to work for the community. He was past president of the Killbuck Chamber of Commerce, past chairperson of the Killbuck Early American Days homecoming, past financial secretary of Killbuck United Methodist Church, and was a former director of the Wayne-Holmes County Home Builders Association. Akins was a member of the Killbuck United Methodist Church. His hobbies included collecting coins, bottles and antiques. He also enjoyed attending arts and crafts shows, and traveling with his wife.

He is survived by nieces and nephews: Laraine Lawson of Corning, Ohio, Garney Otto Lawson of Coshocton, Ohio, Benny C. Lawson of Coshocton, Ohio, Mary of Dayton and Margie of Cleveland; numerous great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet; sister, Adelaide Lawson; brother and sister-in-law, Charles (Janice) Akins; niece, Alexis Lawson; and niece, Ruthann.
