Reverend Joanna Sue Lance, age 71, of Glenmont, Ohio passed away Wednesday, January 17th, 2024 at Ohio's Hospice LifeCare, Wooster, Ohio with her husband at her side following an extended illness.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to share a memory or make online condolences may do so by visiting www.alexanderfhinc.com.
Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Ohio's Hospice LifeCare or to St. John's United Church of Christ in Glenmont.
Joanna was born July 21st, 1952 in Wooster, Ohio and was the daughter of Walter and Joyce (Lowe) Doty. On August 21st, 1971 she married Larry Lance and he survives.
Joanna was a 1970 graduate of Waynedale High School, a 1971 graduate of Wooster Beauty College, graduated from Defiance College with a Christian Education Degree and she graduated with a Master's of Divinity from Bangor Theological Seminary. She was an instructor at Wooster Beauty College, lived in Germany while her husband served in the US army, was co-owner of La Pa Jo's Pizza which was the first pizza shop in Apple Creek, and was a Christian Education Director at the Apple Creek Methodist Church. She then accepted a position at St. John's United Church of Christ in Glenmont and later served at St. John's United Church of Christ in Coshocton. She also served on positions in the Wider Church of the United Church of Christ. Joanna was one of the organizers of the Glenmont food pantry along with her United Church of Christ Church family and other area churches. She was honored with the Citizen of the Year award in Apple Creek and again in Glenmont. Joanna was a member of the Walking to Riches investment club that she helped start. She grew up around horses and loved all animals. She loved to cook, can and freeze food. Joanna enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Larry is her adopted daughter, Lori (Ray) Schneider of Wooster, Ohio; 2 grandchildren: Tara and Tyler Schneider; and adopted daughter, Kim.
She was preceded in death by her parents and half sister, Rose.
