Rene D. Wengerd, age 76, of Millersburg, OH, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Sycamore Run Nursing Home following an extended illness. At the time of his passing, Rene was surrounded by loved ones, including his devoted wife of 50 years, Sheila (Crider) Wengerd.

Born on January 15, 1949, in Goshen, IN, Rene was the son of the late Howard "Jay" and Lela (Weaver) Wengerd. He graduated from West Holmes High School in 1967 and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. After his military service, Rene worked for 37 years at Millersburg Oil and later spent 9 years at CPRO Development/Buckeye Pipeline Construction, retiring in 2021. Rene's passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was known for his cheerful spirit, warm smile, and ability to strike up a friendly conversation wherever he went. Rene had a strong faith in his Lord and Savior and loved sharing that faith in fellowship with others. He often described himself as "a humble man serving an awesome God."

Rene is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila; daughters Korrina (Ian) Thomas of Columbus, OH, and Staci (William) Lecky of Millersburg; grandchildren Keaton Coblentz, Kaili Coblentz, and Niyah Lecky; brothers Richard (Connie), Ron (Paula), Rian (Candi), and Randy (Beth) Wengerd; sister Ruth (Mike) Mannion; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Rita Aufrance; brother, Rob Wengerd; and brother-in-law, Jason Aufrance.

In accordance with Rene's wishes, the family will hold a private graveside service with military rites conducted by the Killbuck VFW and the Millersburg American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rene's honor to the Holmes County Veterans Memorial, 75 East Clinton St #104, Millersburg, OH 44654.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the compassionate staff at Sycamore Run Nursing Home, who cared for Rene during his final months and lovingly described him as "a man on a mission."
