Surrounded by her loving family, Patricia Ann Patten, age 91, of Millersburg, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday December 5, 2023.

Patricia was born October 6, 1932, in Kingwood, West Virginia to Ruth Ann and George Whetsell. Pat attended Marietta College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in home economics. She furthered her degrees in education at Kent State University, Akron University, and Ohio University. It was at Marietta that she met William H Patten Jr. They were married on December 24, 1955, in Oakland, Maryland.

Pat was a Kindergarten teacher at Millersburg Elementary and enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with past students and hear about their lives. She was a member of the Millersburg Methodist Community Church. She belonged to the Retired Teachers Association of Holmes County, the Delta Kappa Gamma society, and the Chi Omega Sorority. Pat was also a volunteer at the Holmes County Victorian House Museum.

In her retirement, Pat spent her time helping to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandma P or Granny, worked to instill a passion for reading and education and could often be found sitting by her picture window, reading to whichever children were visiting with her that day.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, William H Patten Jr, son William H Patten III, her parents and many older brothers and sisters. Pat is survived by her daughter Kimberly (Larry McColl) Mathie; Grandchildren, William (Joy) Patten IV, Maynard (Jessica) Patten, Danielle (Andrew Hawkins) Mathie, Brittany (Brian) Bloomfield, Zachary (Lauren) Mathie, and Paige (Ozzy) Garcia; Great-Grandchildren Chloe, Billy V, Hunter, Maya, Blake, Jocelyn, Elaina, Carson, Londyn, Hayes, Rayanna, and Barrett; and her Brother David Whetsell.

The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude for the compassionate care Pat received in her final days at Pomerene Hospital, Danbury of Millersburg, and LifeCare Hospice.

Friends may call on Sunday December 10, 2023, from 2 to 5 pm, at Alexander Funeral Home in Millersburg, Ohio. Funeral services will be Monday December 11, 2023, at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Paula Koch officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Millersburg following services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Holmes County Education Foundation, Patten Family Memorial Scholarship (formerly the William H Patten Memorial Scholarship) c/o the Holmes County Education Foundation or bring to Alexander Funeral Home a school backpack filled with school supplies to be donated to local students in need.
