Michael Pacula Obituary

Michael George Pacula, age 64, of 256 N. Monroe St. Millersburg passed away after a very brief and unexpected illness on December 29, 2021 at Pomerene Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 13, 1957 in Canton, Ohio.

At the age of 3, Mike began “working” at the family business, Winesburg Provision. After graduating from Kent State University with a degree in music education, he worked at a few jobs before beginning his career as the band (and even choir) director, first at East Holmes and then West Holmes schools. He was still passionately teaching at West Holmes, planning to retire within the next year.

At age 62, Mike took up running and cycling soon after. He especially loved doing these activities with his friend Andy Shaw and his kids Darian and Alexis. His interests were the interests of others, especially those of his family. All through his kids’ growing up, he was a part of all their activities and kept an open door policy for their friends. Mike found joy in the stewardship of all parts of his life, such as mowing lawns, washing cars, fixing outlets, (oh my, the list goes on and on!). He loved fulfilling requests his family and friends had of him. He loved being ‘sneaky’ with his service to others…like a Ninja-servant. It was truly his joy to serve others. It was also his joy to hang Christmas lights and our joy to experience that. He loved learning how to do any job that needed done.

He served many area churches with his piano playing and other musical gifts, especially New Pointe, where he served for 21 years. He also served on many committees throughout his lifetime, doing whatever it took to fulfill the needs. Mike and Libby served as Program Directors during several summers of basics camp at Camp Buckeye Retreat Center. They also enjoyed being part of the youth leader team at Valley View Community Church for several years.

He is survived by his wife Libby (Harmon) whom he married on September 1, 1979. Also surviving are his children Katrina (Steve) Schneiter, Jessica Pacula (Zac Nance), and Darian (Alexis) Pacula; grandchildren Caleb, Shelby, and Joshua Schneiter; and brother Marion (Linda) Pacula and family, as well as a deluge of relatives on Libby’s side, including his father-in-law Jones.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Katharina Pacula and two siblings, Walter and Erika.
