Obituary

Maynard Mohr, age 84 of Millersburg, Ohio passed away peacefully on Monday, November 7th, 2022 at Aultman Hospital, Canton Ohio with family by his side.

 

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 11th at the Millersburg Christian Church with Pastors: Wes McElravy, Todd Booth and David Carrick officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg, Ohio. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Maynard was born July 5th, 1938 in Holmes County, Washington Township, Ohio and was the son of Louis and Jessie (Jenkins) Mohr. On August 4th, 1957 he married Carolyn McKee and she survives.

 

Maynard began his career in law enforcement with the Millersburg Police Department in 1965 under then Chief Carl Starner. He left the police department in 1972 to help establish what is now the Holmes County Juvenile and Adult Probation Departments.

 

In 1977 Judge Jim Estill appointed Maynard to Chief Adult Probation Officer. Maynard worked on and off with the courts and the police department through this period. In 1990 Maynard was instrumental in helping establish what is now the child support field investigation program. This program was run in cooperation with the Holmes County Common Pleas Court and the Child Support Enforcement Agency. Maynard then moved with the investigation program to the sheriff's Department in 1993 when Sheriff Zimmerly agreed to take on the program at his office. Maynard was appointed as a Sergeant to the Child Support Field Investigator position which he held until his retirement from the sheriff's department on December 31st, 2009.

 

Maynard was a member of the Millersburg Christian Church, the Millersburg American Legion and the Millersburg Eagles. He loved golfing, fishing, playing cards and he enjoyed sharing the gospel. Maynard always quoted his favorite verse, Romans 1:16, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile.

 

Surviving in addition to his wife, Carolyn of 65 years are three children: Teri (Pete) Norman and Jerry Mohr both of Millersburg, Ohio and Jacqueline (Roger) McCluggage of Holmesville, Ohio; 13 grandchildren: Billy (Joy) Patten, Maynard (Jessica) Patten, Cy (Kylie) VanSickle, Bryce (Megan) Norman, Drew Mohr, Megan (Nolan) Bendon, Amber Conner,  Rance (Erica) McCluggage, Chazarae (Cam) Taylor, Jyle (La Rainne) McCluggage, Payne (Tori) McCluggage, Amanda (Tim) McClintock, and Derek (Jordan) McCluggage; 24 great grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters: Donna Money and Beulah (Jack) Close both of Millersburg; brother-in-law, Dale Wurthmann of Mansfield; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Hoxworth of Millersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Verta Wurthmann; and in-laws: Tom Money, Walter Hoxworth and Marilyn (Tom) Danner.
