Lewis Shetler Obituary

Lewis M. Shetler, age 85, of Millersburg, Ohio passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Danbury Senior Living of Millersburg.

 

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 6th at Millersburg United Methodist Church with Pastor David Carrick officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg, Ohio. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and also one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Interim Hospice and Palliative Care of Coshocton.

 

Lou was born April 25, 1937 in Apple Creek, Ohio to the late Mose L. and Mary (Miller) Shetler. When Lou was two, his mother died and his father remarried to Barbara Miller, Mary's sister. On March 10, 1961 Lou married Marilyn Hall, she survives.

 

Lou was manager at Ellis Brothers Concrete and also superintendent at the Holmes County Highway Department. He attended Millersburg United Methodist Church since 2001 and was a former active member of the Millersburg Christian Church. Lou was a member of the Rotary Club of Millersburg.  He served as chairman of the Rotary International Exchange Program and hosted many foreign students over the years, as well as receiving the Paul Harris award.

 

Lou was a people person who loved to talk to everyone and was a frequent patron of the "Boyd & Wurthman's Breakfast Club." He was a wise and caring man who gave sage advice. He was a true example of a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Lou loved custard pie, cookies and coffee, and hummingbirds. 

 

Surviving in addition to his wife Marilyn Shetler are three children: daughters Debra Shetler and Vicki Antequera both of Millersburg and son, Michael (Julie) Shetler of Gulf Breeze, Florida; grandchildren: Claire, Luke and Brooke Shetler, and Andrés (Sara) Antequera; great-grandchildren: Ella and Vera Antequera; siblings: Ada Swartzentruber, Mary Shetler, Ella Shetler, Levi (Amanda) Shetler, Eli (Fannie) Shetler and Norman (Carole) Shetler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Uriah Shetler, Elizabeth Petersheim, Joni Shetler, Martha Schrock, and Emma Shetler (infant).

 

The family thanks the compassionate staff of Danbury Senior Living of Millersburg and Interim Hospice and Palliative Care of Coshocton for the care they provided to Lou and the family.
