Leo Helal Obituary

Leo Henry Helal of Millersburg, Ohio passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Pomerene Hospital, Millersburg, Ohio. 


Leo was born on April 4, 1937 to Leo G. Helal and Mildred F. Helal in Wheeling, WV. He grew up in Bridgeport, Ohio and was a proud graduate of Linsly Military Institute in 1955 and then attended Ohio State University. He spent most of his youth boating and fishing at Piedmont Lake. Leo moved to Alexandria, VA in 1957 where he and his wife Susan raised three children together. Leo was a successful business owner and devoted much of his life to Troop 654 of the Boy Scouts of America in Alexandria, VA. He lived and worked in Alexandria, VA until moving to Millersburg, Ohio in 1979. 


He was passionate about the outdoors, woodworking, fishing and volunteering. He taught the children of many family, friends and relatives his love of fishing. Leo liked to entertain and hosted many lobster boils and hog roasts for family, friends and organizations. He also volunteered to organize the concession stands for the Antique Festival in Millersburg, Ohio for many years. 


He is survived by his wife Susan B. Helal, married for 63 years; three children, Rebecca, Stephen and Karen; son-in-law, Mark Baird; nine grandchildren, Michael (Camilla), Thomas (Georgia), Patrick, Julia, Olivia, Ashleigh, Samuel, Rachel and Daniel; a brother, Theodore; two sisters, Barbara and Georganna; and countless extended families of relatives and friends. 


The family wishes to thank Pomerene Hospital for the compassionate care provided to him and his family during his last hours.
