Klines “Fat” Ridenbaugh

KILLBUCK - Klines “Fat” Ridenbaugh, 91, of Killbuck, Ohio died Monday, November 16, 2020 following a brief illness at Wooster Community Hospital with family by his side. That illness fortunately, was preceded by a long, productive, and laughter filled life.

He leaves a son, Wyatt Ridenbaugh, and two daughters, Crystal (Kirk) Spurgeon and Shane (Kirk) Snyder, who admired and adored him. His grandchildren, Mindy (Nick) Newsted, Alissa (Quinton) Gray, Lindsy Snyder, Laina Snyder, and Trey Spurgeon knew him as their most faithful supporter. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren Easton and Everett Newsted and numerous nieces and nephews. Brothers surviving include Donnie Ridenbaugh of Shreve, Denver Ridenbaugh of Millersburg and Frosty (Doris) Ridenbaugh of Beach City. Special thank you to nephew Bobby Ridenbaugh and family friends Nikki Dalton and John Henderson for their continued care and support.

Born October 21, 1929 the son of Lester and Ada (Strain), Fat spent his early years logging timber with his dad. After graduating from Glenmont High School, he served his country during the Korean War from 1948-1951 in the US Army. Upon his return home to Killbuck, Fat began his 60+ year career in hauling garbage for his hometown and surrounding areas where he never charged more than a family could afford. 

Garbage man was not the only title Fat held in Killbuck. He also wore the hat of Killbuck Marshall, Street Commissioner and grave digger. A true staple of Killbuck, you could trust that Fat would always do his rounds to put the village to bed, sometimes even riding with his late dog Fritzy on the hood of his truck.

He held several other jobs throughout his life including Bus Driver, Livestock Driver, Coal Hauler, working at Briar Hill Stone, retiring from Ohio Oil Gathering, and proudly serving Holmes County aside Harry and Darryl Weiss (Barney Fife-style) as the Holmes County Sheriff’s Deputy. He was also a lifetime-member of Killbuck VFW and member of Killbuck United Methodist Church.

Those that knew Fat knew he was one of the hardest working men to ever bless Killbuck and would do anything for anyone free of charge. He would tell his famous jokes to anyone that would listen and was always ready to tell a story from his deputy sheriff days.

Fat will be missed by many but will now be reunited with his beloved mother, his father, daughter Sheyanne Hites, and brothers Lester, Rodney, Kenny, Byron and Denny.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio with Pastor Darcy Miller officiating. Burial will take place at Killbuck Cemetery, Killbuck, Ohio where military rights will be conducted by the Killbuck VFW. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where rules of social distancing will apply.
