Joyce L. (Sweet) Miller Obituary

Joyce L. (Sweet) Miller, age 85, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025, from an unexpected illness, at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.


She was born on October 30, 1939 in Chardon, Ohio to Frank and Dorothy (Coe) Sweet.


She met her husband, Tim Miller, at Hiram College, where she received a BA in Education. They were married for 63 years.


Joyce taught for the East Holmes School District for 31 years. Upon retirement, she spent her time traveling, volunteering at Pomerene Hospital, and served as a treasurer for the East Holmes Retired Teacher’s Organization and Delta Kappa Gamma.
She was known for her love of Jesus, reading, thrift stores, working on jigsaw puzzles, working in her flower beds, and spending time with her kids and grandkids.


Along with her husband Tim, she is survived by daughters Jackie (Mark) Shrock of Dalton and Gail (Brian) Shaffer of Dayton and son Craig Miller of Lake Charles, Louisiana, brother Roger Sweet of Macedonia,  and sister Sheryl Gusler of Warren; grandchildren Ashton (Aaron) Shetler, Phillip (Jessica) Shrock, Emily Miller, Sara (Henry) Newberg, Olivia Miller, Abigail Shaffer, Rachel Shaffer, Hannah (David) Jacques, and Luke Shaffer; great grandchildren Leah, Benjamin, Jaxson, and Anna.


Friends and family are invited to Gardens at Homestead (8233 SR 241, Mount Hope, OH) on Monday, May 5, at 11:00 am for a Celebration of Life service.
