Joseph James Monter

Joseph James Monter, 77, of Killbuck, Ohio, an Air Force Veteran, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024, after fighting a brave battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Alliance, Ohio and grew up on a dairy farm where he lived until he joined the Air Force in 1966. When he finished tech school as an aircraft mechanic, he married his wife of 58 years Susan (Mador) Monter, who survives. Together they raised five children, Joseph (Rebecca) Monter of Gastonia, NC, Kimberly (Willie) Duncan of Cairo, GA, Laurie Menuez of Millersburg, OH, Michael (Greta) Monter of Millersburg, OH and Nicholas (Carmen) Monter of Los Angeles, CA. Joseph is also survived by his favorite in-laws, Barb and Dan Kendle, and their children Shana and Pete. Joseph leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a favorite cat, Dee-Dee.

 After Joseph retired, he enjoyed spending time with his son Mike and their friend Chad Clark working on their one-of-a-kind Thunder Buggy. Close family friend, Scott Sauerbrei, was lovingly referred to by Joe as his “non-biological son” and they spent countless Sundays together watching his favorite team, the Cleveland Browns. He was also an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and all Cleveland sports. A special thank you goes out to his niece Michelle Mador who provided care during his final days. The family also sends a heartfelt thank you to Julie from Ohio’s Hospice Lifecare for taking care of Joseph on his final day.

Joseph was preceded in death by his first-born Angela Monter, Son-in-law Kyle Menuez Parents Charles and Mary Frances Monter, Brother Charles "Sonny” Monter, Sister Mary Anne Boehm. Father and Mother-in-law Joseph and Marie Mador and brother-in-law Donald Mador.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Ohio’s Hospice Lifecare or Holmes County Veterans Services.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Monday at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg with military rites beginning at 7pm.

Graveside services will be 12 noon Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Maximo, Ohio, with Dale Gruver officiating.
