John Wayne Umstead, age 78, of Millersburg, Ohio passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024. 

 

Funeral services will be 12 noon Thursday, December 12th at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio with Pastor Dale Duncan officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Township Cemetery, Holmesville, Ohio. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. John was born May 17, 1946 in Millersburg, Ohio and was the son of Wayne and Gladys (Zickefoose) Umstead. On September 26, 1981 he married Judy Raber and she survives. 

 

John worked at Castle Nursing Home for many years and later worked at Akro in Holmesville. He was a member of Welcome Church of Christ and was a lifetime member of the Killbuck Valley Sportsman's Club in Holmesville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, putting puzzles together and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.

 

Surviving in addition to his wife, Judy are five children: Kenny (Angela) Umstead of Glenmont, Jason Umstead of Wooster, Brittany Umstead of Orrville, Cory Umstead of Wooster, and Megan (Kent) Breitenbucher of Shreve; seven grandchildren: Drake Mendoza, Gabby Mendoza, Bridget Umstead, Gabe Umstead, Addison Umstead, Kenton Umstead and Camille Umstead; two nieces; and one nephew.

 

John was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings; and a son, Andy Williams.
