Gerald's Garden
Gerald had a Garden
Lovely to behold
We loved to smell the roses
And watch the blooms unfold.
But, alas, as time did pass
Cancer came to meet us
In Gerald's chest it took ahold
And in the Garden weeds grew hold.
They covered every inch of space
Encroached when flowers had thrived
But never fear, for help was near
The family did arrive.
They came with hoes and rakes and gloves
Enthusiasm, food and love.
They pulled and pried and pruned and "preened"
And in no time, or so it seemed
They had the weeds in full retreat
Gerald's Garden was clean and neat.
We do not know what lies ahead
Nor what fate awaits us.
But one thing's clear, with family near
We'll have the courage to face it.
Yes, Gerald has a Garden
Lovely to behold
We'll continue to smell the roses
And watch the blooms unfold.
