George Straits Obituary


George R. Straits, age 89, of Millersburg, Ohio went home to be with the Lord, Sunday afternoon, March 7, 2021 following a period of declining health.   
A private funeral mass will take place at St Peter's Catholic Church in Millersburg with Father Ronald J. Aubry officiating. Burial will take place in Nashville Cemetery, Nashville, Ohio where military rites will be conducted by the Killbuck VFW. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 12th at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio.

George was born December 2, 1931 in Holmes County Ohio and was the son of Ralph A. and Caroline (Kaylor) Straits. On October 20, 1962 he married Gertrude E. Miller, and she survives.   
George was a graduate of Clark High School. He was a corporal in the US Army during peacetime and also served in the reserves. George was a dairy farmer all of his life and retired from the Shreiner Sole Company in Killbuck. He was a lifetime member of St Peter's Catholic Church in Millersburg. George was a jokester. He loved entertaining his family and making people laugh with his character voices, Popeye and Donald Duck being two of his favorites. George was an expert pie maker, gaining his expertise as a baker in the Army and he also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.  
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Shelley (Eamon) Costello of Plain City and Stephanie (Rich) Moniger of Millersburg; two grandsons, Declan and Conor Costello; one brother, Charles (Janet) Straits of Millersburg; two sisters, Mary Rose Cline of Albemarle, North Carolina and Ruth Ann Tomossetti of Wooster; two half brothers, Mike (Amy) Straits of Coshocton and Rick Straits (Ryan Danner) of Columbus; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Straits of Millersburg and Susan (Delbert) Howman of Ashland; a brother-in-law, Dale Lahm of Millersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Straits; and a sister, Catherine Lahm.
