Eli Yoder Jr. passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021 with his family by his side from a battle with cancer.
He was born July 16, 1940 in Mt. Hope to Eli M. and Amanda Nisley Yoder. He grew up with seven siblings; infant sister Emma (deceased), Andy E. (Mattie) Yoder (deceased), Jacob E. (Mary) Yoder (deceased), Mary Yoder (survives) of Mt. Hope, Dora Miller (deceased) Dora's husband John Miller (survives), Nelson E. (Anna) Yoder (both survive) of Millersburg, and Mike E. (Mary) Yoder (both survive) of Mt. Hope. On June 8, 1968 he married Gloria McClure and they celebrated 53 years of adventure together, she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife is one son, Trent E. Yoder (wife, Michelle) of Walnut Creek and two wonderful joys, his grandchildren, Reno Greyson Yoder and Joplin LaNell Yoder. He enjoyed being a part of their lives and supporting them in all of their activities.
In 1963 Eli joined the US Army and served in Panama during the Vietnam War. When he returned home in 1966 he purchased the Trail Elevator feed service and also the Mobile grinding service. In 1972 he purchased a 116 acre farm with the plan of becoming a tourist destination, explaining lifestyle and history of the plain people and in 1982 Yoder's Amish Home and Farm became a reality hosting visitors from all around the world. In 1993 land was purchased in Mt. Hope and Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen became a reality. He also helped in operating the Auction Barn Restaurant. He was instrumental in bringing water to the Mt. Hope Community and bringing first Federal Bank to Mt. Hope. He was always Community minded and always thinking of his home town. We as a family wish to thank everyone who helped. Funeral services will be 9:00 a.m. Monday, August 2nd at the Mt. Hope Event Center with pastors Steve Smith, Ken Curren, Paul A. Yoder and Michael R. Yoder officiating. Burial will take place at the cemetery at Yoder's Amish Home where Military Rites will be conducted. Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mt. Hope Event Center.
