Dr. Roy A. Schlabach, 83, died on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Majora Lane in Millersburg after an extended decline.

Roy was born on January 5, 1940, to Atlee D. and Ada D. (Miller) Schlabach in Charm, Ohio. He married Marilyn Mast on August 19, 1966, in Smithville, Ohio.

Roy was valedictorian of the last class to graduate from Berlin High School. He attended Goshen College and The Ohio State University, where he received a Doctor of Optometry degree. He completed additional optometric training at the University of Houston.

Roy practiced optometry in Millersburg for 50 years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Ohio Optometric Association, including one term as president.

In addition to wife Marilyn of Millersburg, he is survived by daughters Renee (Scott Goodland) of Duluth, Minnesota, and Rachelle (Keith) Lyndaker Schlabach, of Millersburg, and grandchildren Mario Lyndaker of Washington, D.C. and Floarea-Alina Lyndaker of Millersburg. He is also survived by siblings Dorothy (John J.) Troyer and Ervin (Lois) Schlabach, brother-in-law Melvin M. Raber, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Fannie Raber.

Roy loved to read, travel, and go to professional meetings. He was a member of Walnut Creek Mennonite Church.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 15th at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church. Burial will take place at the Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 14th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Alexander Funeral Home in Millersburg and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
