Doris Jean Hartley of Millersburg, Ohio entered Heaven from her home on Monday, February 3rd.    She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Cliff Hartley for 61 years.

Born in Coal Grove Ohio to Gay and Effie Compston and was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ralph (Pug), and two sisters Carol Bowman and Barbara Wheeler.

She has two sons, Brett (Tatiana) Hartley of Lynchburg, Virginia and Todd (Sue) Hartley of Bridgeport, West Virginia

Taylor (Rachel), Hartley of Washington DC

Cara (Jon) Holcomb of Richmond, Virginia

She was a faithful pastor’s wife for 55 years as she and Cliff served churches in Ironton, Ohio, Jacksonville, Florida and most recently Northside Baptist Church of Millersburg.   In the early years of ministry, she helped to launch the Ironton Christian Academy and served as the school administrator and teacher.  She was a gifted deaf interpreter and helped proclaim the gospel to thousands of people who could not hear it otherwise.   Her love to study and know the Word of God prepared her for a great teaching ministry of the Bible.   She had an amazing ability to teach the Bible in a way that it could be experienced and applied to daily living.

She was known as “Grammy” to her four grandkids.  They would spend their summers at her house enjoying “cousin camp”.  The impact she had on those four kids is not able to be measured as she surrounded them with laughter, love, security and grand adventures.

She was deeply devoted to caring for her family and she filled our home with laughter and great memories.   Beyond her love for the Lord and her family she was businesswoman and an amazing cook.   She operated the kitchen at the Sugarcreek Auction Barn for 13 years, owned “A Bit of Charm” in Charm, Ohio and served as the Executive Director of the Darb Snyder Community Center in Millersburg. 

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wooster, Ohio.

Funeral Service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday February 6, 2025, at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment will be 11 a.m. Friday February 7th at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, Ohio.
