Donna Smetzer Obituary


Donna Jean Smetzer, age 80, of Nashville, Ohio passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her devoted family on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 after an extended illness.
Donna was born February 28, 1940 in Ashland, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Philip J. and Ruth (Turner) Reiheld. Donna graduated from Glenmont High School, Class of 1958. On December 4, 1960 she married the love of her life, James A. "Skeeter" Smetzer. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2001.
Donna was a loving and devoted homemaker for many years and she was later employed with the West Holmes School District for 30 years where she was the librarian at Lakeville Elementary, she retired in 2011. She loved all the students and each and every one had a place in her heart.
Donna was always wearing a smile and had such a loving and caring heart. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, reading, traveling with her family, and just spending time in general with her family who meant the world to her. Her love for life and family will be carried on by her children, Philip (Jo Ann) Smetzer of Wooster, Richard Smetzer of Nashville, and Tina (Dale) Obringer of Millersburg. Also surviving are siblings, William (Diana) Reiheld, Joyce (James) Croskey, Richard (Shirley) Reiheld, Patricia Martin, Robert (Cynthia) Reiheld and Charles (Billie) Reiheld; brothers-in-law, Roy (Judy) Smetzer, Lee Smetzer and Paul Schaubb; sisters-in-law, Rosie Smetzer and Evelyn Barnes; grandchildren, Jessica (Brian) Zuber, Nathan (Lori) Smetzer, Cody Messner, Lane Miller, Ashley (Thomas) Davis, Natalie (Lance) Salyer, Ryan Obringer, Jake Obringer and Luke Obringer; great grandchildren, Ella Roberts, Weston Zuber and Zane Salyer; many nieces and nephews; and her furry four-legged companion, Bo.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Hiram and Gladys Smetzer; sisters-in-law, Coralie Reiheld, Gloria Smetzer, Ina Smetzer, Dixie Smetzer, Shirley Smetzer, Eileen Schaubb, and Bertha Otto; brothers-in-law, James Martin, Hiram Smetzer, Richard Smetzer, Dean Smetzer, John Smetzer, Warren Otto and Donald Barnes, Sr.; and a grandchild, Joshua Smetzer.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wooster Community Hospital and LifeCare Hospice staff for all the compassion, care and support that was given to Donna.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 18th at Nashville Cemetery, Nashville, Ohio with Pastor Brad Dodson officiating. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio. Rules of social distancing will apply during calling hours. We ask that people remain in their vehicles until a member of the funeral home staff releases you to come inside. Only groups of 10 will be allowed in at a time. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster, Ohio 44691.
