Dean W. Giauque Obituary

Dean W. Giauque, age 90, of Wooster, Ohio passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Dalton, Ohio. He was born May 21, 1935, in Millersburg, Ohio to Clarence & L.Bata Giauque. He graduated from Clark High School in 1955 in a class of 6 boys and 1 girl. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Schwabisch Gmund, Germany from 1955-1957 during peace time post Korean War. One of his favorite and often talked about memories was the opportunity to take a weekend trip to Paris and climb the Eiffel Tower. He also took weekend trips to Amsterdam, Belgium, and Rome. Upon returning home he began working at The International Paper Company in Wooster where he worked for 22 years until he was forced to retire in 1979 due to his health. On November 15, 1959, he married Beverly L. Bower in Holmes County, Ohio and they were married for 62 years before her death in 2022. It had always been his dream to own his own farm, so in 1971 he and Beverly bought a 66 acre farm between Shreve & Big Prairie where they lived until 2009. He enjoyed raising Beef Cattle and Hogs along with baling Hay & Straw and planting/harvesting Corn. He was a faithful member of Ripley Church of Christ since 1971 where he served by driving the church van for several years for Youth Group & Vacation Bible School, and by baking Casseroles & Texas Sheet Cakes to take to those who had lost loved ones. He was a long time member of the Holmes County Farm Bureau and enjoyed getting together monthly with his group until entering Shady Lawn Nursing Home in 2019. He loved traveling every two years to his Army Reunions and went to many places throughout the United States including Sedona, Mackinac Island, Branson, Nashville, and Newport among many others. He also enjoyed frequent reunions with his high school graduating class. He especially treasured his Bichon Dog in his later years between 2015-2019. He often called her “Sasha Sue, Eyes Of Blue. I don't know what I'd do without you!”

He is survived by daughter Kelly Giauque of Wooster, Son Brian and wife Luann Giauque of Big Prairie, Son Jarod and wife Dawn Giauque of Lakeville, and daughter-in-law Stacy Giauque of Shreve.
