Dana Olive (Angle, Cook) Hawkins, entered into her haven of rest peacefully from her home in Killbuck on Thursday, September 21st at the age of 90. She was born to Clonie Columbus and Anna Marie (Moore) Angle in Quinwood, West Virginia, on June 12, 1933, as the eldest daughter of a loving family of 12 siblings. Dana's life was a testament to her strong faith and unwavering love for her family.
In 1953, Dana married Bobby Cook, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 46 joyful years. When Bobby became ill, she was his caregiver until he passed in 1999. Together, they were blessed with five beautiful children. Over the years, they raised many others as their own. She is survived by her son, Arthur (Lori) Cook of Walkerton, IN and daughter, Tina (Mike) Galford of the home. Tina and Mike were her caregivers over the last several years, providing her unwavering love and support. Although they lived out of state, Arthur and Lori traveled through all conditions at a moment's notice to be by her side when needed, as well.
Dana spent over 20 years as a dedicated charge nurse at the Castle Nursing home, where her compassion touched the lives of countless residents. She was a devoted follower of Jesus and active member of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church. She served God and was a leader within her church family teaching Sunday school, organizing numerous vacation bible schools, and leading the choir with a voice that could uplift prayers and hearts. She believed in the power of faith and instilled those values in her family.
In 2001, Dana found love and companionship again when she married Lloyd Hawkins. Through their union she gained another family to love and share her faith. Dana and Lloyd were married for 19 happy years together and both were blessed to have the other’s family treat them as their own.
In addition to Bobby, Lloyd, and her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughters, Donna Margie Cook and Sandra Marie Cook, her son, David Allen Cook, siblings Nellie Bonner, Herman Angle, Virginia Kay Shamp, Cecil Angle, and James Albert Angle.
Dana leaves behind a legacy of love with her grandchildren Jerimie Ellis, Tracy Ellis, Josh (Billie Jo) Cook, Arthur Cook Jr, Adam (Misty) Cook, Sherry (Joe) Cook, Angela (Rex) Chaney, Ashley (Kevin) Watts, Manda (Dan) Jackson, Devin Williams, 18 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Dana filled so many roles in people's lives taking on many loving names across her time. She was Dana to many, Sissy to her siblings, Olive to her cousins, Cookie to the residents and co-workers at the nursing home, and “Nanny,” to those who loved her as the matriarch of the family.
Dana Olive Angle Cook's journey may have reached its earthly end, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her strong faith, boundless love, and enduring legacy will forever be cherished.
