Roger A. Shamp Sr. left this home to be reunited in heaven with his wife of 49 years, Virginia K. Shamp, on Saturday February 16, 2019.
Roger was born to the late Clifford and Cecelia (Ober) Shamp on June 28, 1943 in Fredericksburg, Ohio. He married Virginia (Angle) Shamp on August 23, 1966. They had four children: Ramona (Robert) Hines, Roger Shamp Jr., Laura (Drew) Ivers and Ronda (Jake) Raber.
Twelve grandchildren who consist of Lawrence Hines, Cecilia Hines, Chelsie Shamp, Lillian Shamp, Nyte Shamp, Holly Ivers, Audrey (Keegan) Whitworth, Andrew (Beth) Ivers, Blake (Ali) Shamp, Preston Shamp, Garrett Shamp, Nathan Raber and eight grandchildren have blessed this family.
Roger served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam war. He retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad where he was a proud member of the pipefitters union. He was lovingly known as the "Jack of all trades, Master of none." He advised his grandkids to use brains not bronze. He loved to read. He challenged everyone with trivia during Thursday night dinners.
Roger is survived by brother, Cliff (Gerri) Shamp and sister, Barbara (Bud) Sigler. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Shamp and William (Millie) Shamp and a sister, Marlene (Kenny) Greenwald.
Thursday nights will never be the same. Dad will be greatly missed. His greatest love and devotion was his family. He has left a great example and legacy for us to follow.
Our family would like to thank the nurses of Hospice for helping us through this trying time. God bless.
