Kenneth Albert "Dick" Smith age 87 of Millersburg, Ohio passed away Thursday evening, November 16, 2017, at his home following an extended illness.
       Private family graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg, Ohio with Father Stephen L. Krile officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Killbuck VFW and the Millersburg American Legion.
       There will be no calling hours.
       Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio is handling the arrangements.
       In lieu of flowers, family suggests that memorial contributions be made to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, Ohio 44691 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
       He was born December 15, 1929 in Black Rock, Arkansas and was the son of Charles and Lavina Smith. On May 25, 1957 he married Marie Butts and she survives.
       Dick was a retired school teacher from Hiland High School. After retirement, he was a hobby farmer.
       He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army and was a Purple Heart recipient.
       Dick was a member of the Millersburg American Legion, the Killbuck VFW, the Teachers Association and the Democratic Party.
       Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, K. Gregory Smith of Big Prairie, Ohio, Jeffrey Smith of Columbus, Ohio and Douglas Smith of Millersburg; and two brothers, Franklin "Brownie" Smith and Dean "Jerome" Smith.
       He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, infant brother, Glen, Bernis "Monk", Chester, Stanford "Sleepy", and Lawrence "Pop".
