Karen S. Wharton, age 67, of Apple Creek, Ohio went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday Morning, July 10, 2018 at LifeCare Hospice, Wooster, Ohio surrounded by her family.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating. A private family burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery. Karen was born September 29, 1950 in Millersburg, Ohio and was the daughter of Richard and Marjorie (Duncan) Fortune. On July 8, 1972 she married Jeffrey Lynn Wharton and he preceded her in death on June 20, 2007.
Karen was a graduate of West Holmes High School. She started working for Cerco right out of high school, retiring in 2015. Karen enjoyed mushroom hunting, cross stitching, bird watching, gardening and taking pictures of flowers. She loved vacations, attending her grandchildren's activities and she looked forward to the Wayne County Fair every year.
She is survived by three children, Randy L. (Kay) Wharton of Wooster, Ohio, Jennifer L. Wharton of Wawaka, Indiana and Whitney (Bradley) Kurtz of Wooster, Ohio; six grandchildren, Sierra Wharton, Alexis Kurtz, Gaven and Sebastian Leighliter, Addie and Emilee Wharton; a sister, Connie (Rob) Aduddell of Wooster, Ohio; a brother, Richard (Linda) Fortune of Loudonville, Ohio; and a special friend, John Scott of Killbuck, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bonnie Fortune and Deborah Fortune; and a son, Jeremy Wharton.
