Obituary

On November 1st, 2019, John Alvin Remington, born June 23rd, 1940 to D. Darst and Vesta Hostetler Remington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family while at LifeCare Hospice of Wooster.  A special thank you to staff and friends at OrrVilla, Smithville Western Care Center and Wooster Community Hospital for their medical care during his brief illness.

John filled his years on Earth serving others.  He dedicated his life to mission work, which included Toronto Christian Mission in Austria, Round Lake Christian Assembly, Haitian Christian Outreach and serving as construction supervisor for Holmes County Habitat for Humanity.  He was an ordained minister and served as an elder at Nashville Church of Christ.  John was known for his sense of humor, his love for Christ and his ability to connect with the people God placed in his life along his journey.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Bill Heller, his niece, Stephanie Heller and loyal dog, Alvin.  He leaves behind his loving sister, Carol Heller and his three daughters, Sue (Tom) Gillispie, Joyce (Rob) Walker and Ruth (Jereme) Scheufler.  His life became richer with the birth of each of his ten grandchildren: Kayla (Alec) Costello, Kelsey (Mark) Blair, John (Bryana) and Piper Gillispie, Clay (Brittney), Buzz, Cade, and Brenna Walker, Layne and Spencer Scheufler.  He was most recently blessed with three great grandsons, Leon, Abel and Avery.  He shared his life with two wonderful women; his former wife of 48 years, Carol (Karling) and most recently Karol Mairs.

Services will take place at Nashville Church of Christ on Monday, November 4th.  Calling hours will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 PM.  A Celebration of Life will begin at 7:00 PM.
