John was born in Greer, Ohio on April 21, 1931 to Ralph and Ruth (Young) Hipp. He married Mary Esther Burkey in 1950 and they had four children; Holli (George) Lee of Rapid City, SD, Amy (Mike) Fair and John D. (Pam) Hipp both of Millersburg and Betsy (Scott) Hall of Greer, Ohio. He had eight grandchildren; Amy (Matt) Schafer of Urbandale, Iowa, Scott (Jaima) Lee of Rapid City, SD, Mike (Kathy) Fair, Matt (Autumn) Fair, Megan (Nolan) Mackey, Terri (Rickey) Felton, John R. Hipp all of Holmes County and Josh Hipp of Florida. He also enjoyed all 15 great-grandchildren. He married Pat Buren in 2013 and they traveled thousands of miles together, many in the semi.

He is also survived by his brother Delmar Hipp of Florida. He had many nieces, nephews and cousins that he enjoyed seeing at the annual Hipp Reunion at the river.

He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them at the beach or on their many vacations.

John lived a long blessed life. He loved farming, trucking (especially cattle) and hauling mulch. He had a work ethic that was hard for anyone else to live up to.

John had a generous heart and was always helping people out. He was down to earth and easy to talk to. His storytelling (believable or not) and sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gerald Hipp and sisters Dorothy Lydic and Betty Jones.
