Gloria May Smetzer, age 77, of Big Prairie, Ohio passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Sycamore Run Nursing Home, Millersburg, Ohio surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Nashville Church of Christ with Pastor Brad Dodson officiating. Burial will take place in Nashville Cemetery, Nashville, Ohio. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio and one hour prior to the services on Sunday at the church. Gloria was born May 8, 1941 in Millersburg, Ohio and was the daughter of Hiram and Gladys (Bevington) Smetzer. She worked 47 years at Diamonite, retiring in 2008. Gloria was a member of the Nashville Church of Christ, where she was a custodian. She loved her church and the people in it. Gloria enjoyed taking walks and having coffee and lunch with her friends at Buckeye Deli. She is survived by her siblings, Hiram Smetzer Jr. of the Holmes County Home, Lee Smetzer of Big Prairie, Ohio, Evelyn Barnes of the Holmes County Home and Roy (Judy) Smetzer of Big Prairie, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Donna Jean Smetzer of Big Prairie, Ohio and Rosie Smetzer of Millersburg, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Paul Schaubb of Glenmont, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Richard Smetzer, Dean Smetzer, Bertha Otto, Eileen Schaubb, Jim Smetzer, John Smetzer, and infant son, Bernard Smetzer; and a brother-in-law, Donald Barnes Sr. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Sycamore Run and to LifeCare Hospice for all of the love, care and support that was given.
