David V. Sampsel, Sr, age 74 of Millersburg, Ohio passed away Sunday morning, October 15, 2017 at Aultman Hospital, Canton, Ohio following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio, with Military Rites being conducted by the Killbuck V.F.W. There will be no calling hours. Those wishing to share a memory or make online condolences may do so by visiting www.alexanderfhinc.com.
David was born April 18, 1943 in Newark, Ohio and was the son of Clarence and Lela (Baker) Sampsel. In January of 1989 he married Sharon Bretz and she survives.
David drove truck for Waste Quip. He was a truck driver for most of his life. David was a veteran of the US Army, where he was an expert Rifleman during the Vietnam era. He loved and was proud to be an honorary member of the Millersburg Police Auxiliary. David collected guns and knives. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, loved watching NASCAR and was an avid Browns fan.
Surviving in addition to his life partner, Sharon are 2 children, son, David (Melissa) Sampsel Jr. of Sugarcreek, Ohio, and daughter, Michelle Baker (Doug Brown) of Marysville, Ohio; step-son, Jason Bretz of Millersburg, Ohio; two grandchildren, Cody (Amanda) Butler and Darlene (Larry) Baxter; special granddaughter, Kaitlyn Bretz; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irene Clark of Millersburg, Ohio; brother-in-law, Mike Collins of Millersburg, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friends, Dick Lint of Big Prairie, Ohio and Bob of Millersburg, Ohio. He is also survived by five fur babies, Miss Kitty, Maggie, Keeki, Mr. and Baby Punkin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.
