He was born October 7, 1940 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio and was the son of Everett and Mildred (Yauger) Black. On December 18, 1980 he married Joanne Reiheld and she survives.
Carroll worked at Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Mt. Vernon for 13 years, worked 10 years at Artiflex in Wooster, formerly known as Gerstenslagers, and was owner/operator of Blackie's Blend. Trapping was his passion. When Carroll was a small boy he became fascinated with his uncle's Fur-Fish-Game Magazines, sparking his interest in trapping. He began Blackie's Blend and formulated and produced his own line of trapping lures and baits for 34 years. They became nationally recognized, being sold to the trapping public, plus dealers and distributers across the country. He attended State and National Trapping Conventions to sell his product and to get their catalogs out there. He even gave Trapping lessons and went on Trapping excursions to New York, Indiana, Arizona, Wyoming and California. His business was he and his wife's pride and joy. He was a member of both the Ohio State Trappers Assn. and the National Trappers Assn.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Joanne is a daughter, Paige Black, of Michigan; step sons, Rick (Teresa) Burgett of Millersburg, Ohio, and Dan (Jenny) Burgett of Nashville, Ohio; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving are many family members and friends from the Mount Vernon area.
He was preceded in death by parents, Everett and Mildred Black; granddaughter, Erin Walton; and a great grandson, Riley Walton.
The family would like to say a heart felt thank you to the Doctors and Nurses at the Wooster Community Hospital and to the entire staff at LifeCare Hospice for all the care and support they gave to Carroll and his family.
