Ann Waltman Obituary

Ann (Patterson) Waltman passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home, Walnut Creek, OH.

She was born in Holmesville to Raymond J. and Louella (Glasgo) Patterson on October 7, 1934, and graduated from Millersburg High School and Ohio State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO and did her graduate work at Ashland and Wooster Colleges in Ohio. While at Ohio State she was the accompanist for the Men's Glee Club.

Her volunteer work included Habitat for Humanity, Hospice, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and as a gray lady at Joel Pomerene Hospital and Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH. As a member of First Presbyterian Church she had been an elder, a deacon, and a member of the choir, plus serving as organist for a number of years.

She was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers' Assoc., Daughters of the American Revolution and MENC, plus the Millersburg Rotary Club.

She studied piano under George Haddad and pipe organ under William Held at Ohio State. She enjoyed playing the organ in LaCrosse, WI and Millersburg and Canton, OH, but her first love was piano where she enjoyed accompanying many local choral groups for the Messiah and many high school musicals. Later she gave piano lessons for many years.

For 30 years she taught music in pre-schools and public schools in Berea, Grandview Heights, Columbus, Jackson Township and Millersburg, and for a short time was on the staff in the music department at Ohio State University before moving to Sparta, WI. She spent a year and three summers as music therapist at the Holmes County Training Center. She enjoyed working as accompanist for the Holmes County Messiah and local country musical productions, plus being an organist for churches in Massillon, Canton and Millersburg, OH and the First Episcopal Church in Sparta, WI.

After retiring, she worked at The College of Wooster in the dance department as accompanist for Kim Tritt's ballet classes and for Judith Niehland's ballet classes at the Wayne Center for the Arts. She began giving piano lessons and continued to play for several local churches.

Surviving are two sons, Stephen (Arlene) Waltman of Millersburg and Thomas Waltman of Colorado Springs, CO; and four grandchildren, Ella (Keaton) Lorentz, Aaron Waltman, Amanda Waltman and Allison Waltman of Colorado Springs, CO.
