Robert Joseph Schaefer, age 72, of Millersburg, Ohio passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at LifeCare Hospice, Wooster, Ohio, surrounded by his family, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio with Father Ronald J. Aubry officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Killbuck VFW. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Immediately following the service, all are welcome to attend a luncheon that will take place at 38046 CR 33, Warsaw, Ohio. Family askes  that you please bring a covered dish.

Robert was born May 7, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland and was the son of John Albert and Gertrude (Redtmann) Schaefer. On June 27, 1964 he married Sylvia Sponaugle and she preceded him in death on December 26, 2003.
Robert was known as Santa Bob. He was a member of St Peter Catholic Church. Robert was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Millersburg American Legion. He enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing and being outdoors and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by five children, Barbara (Joseph) Brewer of Warsaw, and Bonnie Farley, Brenda (Fred) Kimbrell Jr., Beverly Schaefer and Bobby Schaefer all of Millersburg; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; two brothers, John "Jack" (Mary) Schaefer of Maryland and Jay (Nell) Schaefer of South Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friend and companion, Cheryl Jones of Millersburg.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; his wife, Sylvia; first born son, Robert Joseph Schaefer Jr.; two brothers, Paul Schaefer and William "Bill" Schaefer; and a great-granddaughter, Lily Brewer.
