Leland L. "Lee" Kanuckel, age 74, of Killbuck, Ohio passed away Tuesday evening, September 26, 2017 at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg, Ohio following a short battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2017 at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, Ohio with Pastor Ken Smailes officiating. Burial will take place at Killbuck Cemetery, Killbuck, Ohio. Lee was born November 3, 1942 in Coshocton County, Ohio and was the son of Louis H. and Ora E. (McKelvey) Kanuckel. On August 17, 1964 he married Sally E. Albertson and she survives.
Lee was a 1961 graduate of Warsaw High School and a 1966 graduate of Kent State University. He taught Ohio and American History for 35 years at West Holmes Junior High, retiring in 2001. Leland was a member of the Killbuck United Methodist Church and the Holmes County Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and flower gardening. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, attending their sports and band activities. He was their number one fan. Lee also enjoyed traveling, one of his favorite destinations were the Smoky Mountains.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Sally are two children, son, Michael L. (Keisha) Kanuckel of Killbuck and daughter, Susan (Jon) McFarland of Millersburg; 8 grandchildren, Jacob, Christopher, Braylon, Noah, McKelvey, Ian, Thomas and Wren; his aunt, Virginia Nyhart formerly of Killbuck; a sister-in-law, Anna Donaker of Zanesville; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his lifelong friend, Dale Kreischer of both Millersburg and Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Kanuckel.
