Joseph Leo Hosfeld, age 90, of Holmesville, Ohio passed away Tuesday evening, September 12, 2017.
Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St Peter's Catholic Church in Millersburg with Father Stephen L Krile officiating. Burial will take place at Prairie Township Cemetery, Holmesville, Ohio. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home Millersburg, Ohio. Joseph was born May 6, 1927 in Fredericksburg, Ohio and was the son of Cletus Joseph and Dora (Stutz) Hosfeld. On July 28, 1962 he married Nancy Lucille Butler and she preceded him in death on December 29, 2016.
Joseph graduated from Fredericksburg High School and served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the Holmes County highway department. Joseph was a member of St Peter Catholic Church in Millersburg. He was a life member of the Melvin McClure Post 551 American Legion of Holmesville, the Killbuck VFW and the Millersburg Eagles. Joseph enjoyed hunting, trapping, and taking fishing trips in his younger years. He loved the Cleveland Indians, was an avid bowler and ran the sideline chains for Waynedale High School football for many years.
He is survived by 6 children, Deb (Chuck) Donley of Holmesville, Ohio, Deanna (Jim) Harman of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dorraina T. Frederick of Apple Creek, Ohio, Darlene F. Stoltzfus of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dorothy (Tom) Leppla of Millersburg, Ohio and Donald J. Hosfeld of Apple Creek, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sister Gratia Hosfeld of Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy Lucille Hosfeld; 2 sisters, Theresa McCarthy and Donna Casper; one brother, Bernard Hosfeld; and a son-in-law, Larry Stoltzfus.
